AMO GmbH and DECPT ApS - European defence funding: Enterprise Europe Network facilitates German-Danish technology partnership
The Danish deep-tech company DECPT ApS and the Aachen-based company AMO were brought together via a Danish partner of the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) and the NRW.Europa team at ZENIT. Together with other European partners, they received funding from the European Defence Fund to develop innovative camouflage technologies.
Innovations in the defence sector are increasingly emerging from international networks. A recent example of this is the ‘Camofoil 2.0 – Advanced Material for a Disruptive Approach to Signature Management’ project, which is funded under the European Defence Fund (EDF). The aim of the project is to develop a platform-independent camouflage solution for armoured vehicles, based on a disposable multispectral film, which offers protection against visual, thermal and radar-based reconnaissance.
The project is being coordinated by the Danish deep-tech company DECPT ApS, which specifically sought out European technology partners for the application. The search for partners was carried out via the Enterprise Europe Network. In Germany, the NRW.Europa team at ZENIT was responsible for identifying suitable companies and brought AMO GmbH from Aachen into the emerging consortium.
The Aachen-based company is one of the leading research and development organisations in the field of micro- and optoelectronics. Its expertise in nanoelectronics, nanophotonics, the processing of 2D materials, graphene coatings, nanostructuring and optical simulations perfectly complements the technological requirements of the project. Together with other partners from Belgium, Slovakia, Cyprus and Denmark, a powerful European consortium has been formed.
The project proposal was successfully approved in 2025. The total budget amounts to around 3.2 million euros and is funded almost entirely by the European Defence Fund. As project coordinator, DECPT will receive around 1.24 million euros. For AMO GmbH, participation in the project opens up new opportunities in the field of functional coatings and smart camouflage technologies, whilst also strengthening its visibility within the European innovation ecosystem of the security and defence industry. Its share of the funding amounts to around 460,000 euros.
NRW.Europa-Support
The NRW.Europa team at ZENIT played a key role in the project’s success. Upon receiving the enquiry from the Danish partner, the team coordinated the initial contact, facilitated communication between the participating companies and, together with the Danish EEN partners, ensured a structured follow-up process. This targeted matchmaking ultimately led to the formation of a high-performing international consortium and a successful application to the European Defence Fund.
“Participation in the CAMO-V2 project is of considerable strategic value to AMO. It enables us to apply our expertise in the fields of sensor technologies, advanced materials and nanotechnology to innovative defence-related applications, whilst collaborating with leading European industry and research partners. Through the project, we are expanding our network within the European defence ecosystem, raising the profile of our technologies and gaining valuable insights into future capability requirements. CAMO-V2 therefore represents an important step towards strengthening AMO’s position in the defence market and opens up new opportunities for long-term collaboration and technology transfer. We greatly appreciate the partnering support provided by the Enterprise Europe Network, as it significantly facilitates the targeted establishment of partnerships such as this one.”
